Gastric band for weight loss does it work and how does it work?

Question by Gossip81: Gastric band for weight loss does it work and how does it work?

Positive feedback please

Best answer:

Answer by bumbleboi
It does work, it is like an elastic band which is placed around the stomach to restrict it’s capacity and function, hence you cannot eat as much as you once did. It is major surgery and highly risky and only available to those who are morbidly obese, which is different to clinically obese.
To be obese or clinically obese you have to be in excess of your ideal weight and body mass index (BMI). To be morbidly obese you have to be twice or more than twice your ideal weight and BMI, as the words imply, morbidly obese people are in danger of early or imminent death.

New year! I want to lose weight!!!!?

Question by dramagal94: New year! I want to lose weight!!!!?
I am reasonably happy with my figure. Im 5″ . I weigh about 9-10 1/2 stone. I HATE my thighs! I really want to tone them up. Im a 12(uk) in bottoms and a 10-12(uk) in dresses/tops. I want to get to a size 8(uk). I do tap and am starting ballet and street dance as i love dancing but other than that i dont really excercise apart from wii fit plus and the other fitness games/dvds i have. I dont have time to go to the gym. I sometimes go swimming but im quite self concscious so i dont like wearing swimsuits/bikinis in public. I eat really well and have a healthy ,well balanced diet its my excercise and fitness that i need to improve.

I want to:-

1. Get to a size 8.
2. Tone my thighs.
3.Lose the flabby stomach and get it flat and toned.
4.Banish the bingo wings.

I do NOT want to:-

1.Take any diet pills/appetite supressants etc.
2.Develop an eating disorder.
3.be moaned at because i want to lose weight.
4. to be sold any products claiming to do this that and the other.
5. Have any cosmetic surgery to get my desired look.

No stupid answers please its a waste of my time and yours!!

Sorry I can’t answer you here, other than to direct you to some of my earlier posts.

Lots of basic, easy info I’ve learned from dieticians, exercise physiologists, etc. I don’t want to have to keep typing it, but it sounds like the info might fit you since you have the right attitude (you’re willing to get in shape naturally through diet and exercise).

I am not selling anything, so feel free to check out the info.

Good luck.

Is this good for my weight, i think its quite important for my health and my ‘life’?

Question by Super Girl: Is this good for my weight, i think its quite important for my health and my ‘life’?
when i get married, im going to have to keep a member ship with a gym, have an exercise machine at home, use nintendo wii fitness, etc, dvds, etc….
im going to have to see a dietitian and nutritionist ‘before’ i ever have a baby, i have to know how to work out and cut out of junk.. it will teach me to really be educated and knowledgeable on diet and for my own physical health more….
i need to join fitness boot camp after a baby, i want two in the future….. and then i can also have cosmetic surgery.

Because i know if i don’t i will definitely suffer with diabetes that is for sure, and i will blow up in to some thing really huge!

at least this will give me the confidence to be more fit as i get older, and learn more…

i know i would grow in to balloon! because people like me grow sides ways easier…
right now , i even have to do strength training at gym, i feel like a 50 year old!..
and i need to take up tennis for fun at gym on saturdays.

Really ,I don’t think you need all the things you listed here. But I will give you a tip to loosing fat after baby if your so worried about it. IT is called Breast Feeding. I have had 4 children and come from a family that gets big after baby. They did not breast feed. I did for at least 6months. I lost my baby blow up plus a bit more than what I had before pregnancy. Once your out on your own fixing your won food, you will feel better. For now learn about food diet and exercises. Also Love yourself for who you are not just what you look like. The positivity will help You A lot. Good luck!

I think doing all of those things would be going overboard. You should take up a sport you like, and maybe jog and/or lift weights…. but if this is a full-time obsession, then it’s simply unhealthy (mentally, mostly).

How can I gain weight healthily?

Question by bookworm89: How can I gain weight healthily?
I’m 18 and haven’t started my periods yet. This is probably due to me losing a few kilos over the last year as a result of depression and stress. I saw a gynaecologist in the summer and she told me to put on weight, but this is proving to be much harder than it sounds. I’m trying to eat a bit more but it seems like the harder I try to put on some weight, the less it works! I’m scared to weigh myself as I think I’ve somehow lost a little bit more weight recently; the bones around my neck and shoulders have started to protrude and they look awful. I’m really worried. Has anyone got any advice on how I can gain weight?

Best answer:

Answer by jnine
True gaining weight is not that easy when you are trying to do it. Here’s my suggestion: Eat some complex carbs that will allow provide good protein sources like brown rice and beans and pasta dishes. Eat dairy that is a good way to gain weight like whole milk and cheeses. Do a protein shake.

Try to eat 3 meals a day and add two snacks like fruit and nuts.

Question by gal-next-dr: weight issues, pls read and give advice?
my friend is betweem 5’2 and 5’4 she wears a size 20 uk dress size, and she weighs 14 and1/2 stone, wat should her ideal weight be?
she is really sad but has not got d will to diet or exersice, she is considering cosmetic surgery to get rid of her pooch tummy and do a couple of liposuctions for localised fat.
do u think she will look good after surgery?

Best answer:

Answer by PierreZFP
Only one way to lose weight. Consume fewer calories than you expend. Surgery is no good for her as she will put it all back on and it carries significant risks. A lifestyle change is needed here. Maybe go and see a therapist as to why she is sad but will not diet/exercise

What will happen to my stomach after I lose weight?

Question by Charlie and Robert: What will happen to my stomach after I lose weight?
I currently weight 214lbs and considered obese, and I am in the process of losing weight to get to 140lbs which is perfect for me.

Now, the question I have is what will happen with the loose skin? I’ve lost weight in the past and had lots of loose skin, but I was slimmer then… now I’m the size I am now, I’m worried that when I get to my desired size and weight, I’ll have so much loose skin that I’ll become depressed about it.

My question is, can toning alone combat this problem? I’m doing intensive exercise already for an hour each day but if I spend some time specifically toning my stomach muscles, will that make sure I won’t have all this loose skin?
Or
Is it a case of I can’t do anything about loose skin and if I want to get rid of it, I have to have a tummy tuck?

Please help!!

Answer by dancer4life2277
Your skin is very elastic and while I don’t know why or how it happens, it some how manages to shrink back to normal when you lose weight (see: pregnant women and what happens afterwards with enough exercise!) Unfortunately, I don’t think all of the skin will be toned, I think you’ll have a little loose skin but I don’t think it will be excessive. Regardless of how much loose skin you end up with though, think of the years you’ll be adding onto your life and the lack of health problems you’ll have to endure once you’ve lost all that weight! Keep up the good work! :)
