Teeth advice, do you think its reasonable to ask my dentist this…?

Question by Clare: Teeth advice, do you think its reasonable to ask my dentist this…?
My teeth are in really bad condition. The top ones in particular give me a lot of trouble. I wear a partial denture as I had to have a front tooth out.
The 2 smaller teeth either side of the very front ones are dead and have swelling at the root or something, they need root canals which i am 100% sure im not having done.
My left canine tooth has snapped in half.
And the molars at the back have big fillings in them which cause a lot of sensitivity and pain.

Im scared of the dentist, I get very panicy when I have to go there.

As my teeth need a lot of work done and give me a lot of pain Id like to ask my dentist if he can pull my top teeth out and give me a denture. As i already wear a partial I don’t think it would take much getting used to. Does this sound reasonable or will he think im crazy

It’s not an unreasonable request to make, as long as you are happy with it.

If your teeth are in quite a bad way and you think this is the solution then it should be fine. it could save you a lot of pain (and money) if you have them removed.

What could this possibly be?

Question by layla: What could this possibly be?
Hi all,

Been going through a lot lately(family/relatives stuff, school stuff) and I kinda don’t know whats wrong with me…
So ever since my first period when I was 12 1/2 yrs old, I’ve never had a regular cycle. The first couple of years, I would have a period one month and maybe not another for two months or so. My mom scheduled a gyn when I was 13 but on the day of my appointment I got my period ( you cant imagine how excited I was). I have this ‘irrational fear”, my mom calls it, of gynecologists. I just don’t like anyone all up in my business you know? Its uncomfortable.
Anyways, three years ago I started getting regular periods for like six months. Then the periods just started getting longer and longer. First 10 days, then 15 and so on. Now I have period lasting a month and a half! And my periods are always about three weeks apart.
I’m turning 20 soon and I’ve seen some changes. Since starting college (1 1/2 yrs ago), I gained about 15 pounds, seen an increase in facial hair (darker upper lip and chin), moodier, I just want to sleep all the time, constant headaches, crave sweets so much more.
I really don’t want to go to a gyn, I just really really don’t.
Any suggestions as to what it could possibly be?

Sorry for the long post and Thank You in advanced

Someone please please help i cant take this anymore???

Question by TTC for baby no 1! x: Someone please please help i cant take this anymore???
The past few years have been hell for me. I basically have to live in pads, i get water infections all time. I had severe pelvic pain and had to stay in hospital, had a scan to find out i had a double uterus….
BUT no one can actually tell me what these problems are, ive had all swabs done, blood tests, scans, being seen by a gynecologist and NOTHING. why else would i be having discharge so much????? it can be anything from green to brown colour from no odour to a foul odour. Obviously signs of infections etc but all tests ive had done signalled no problem! and I still dont know why i had severe pain!
Recently also i bled inbewteen my periods :(
I just want to feel clean and not have to wear pads most of the time

This is really getting me VERY depressed :( Im only 18 and i cant keep living this way :(

Im sexually active and before i was i still got problems but hardly as much!

Well. To help find out what is going on. I would start by abstaining from sex. if the problem slows then it has something to do with sex. Make sure all STDs have been checked – both pap smear and blood. Then I would ask for an Xray. Always always get a second or sometimes a third opinion. If you are in a smaller city you may want to go to a doctor in the closest bigger city near you.

this is a personal question for girls. please help! :S?

Question by rosemaya: this is a personal question for girls. please help! :S?
hi, for the past few years i have had this weird problem. i keep getting a little cut on my vagina, the same size and in the same place. it’s almost as if it heals for a couple of weeks then just opens again of it’s own accord! it hurts a little bit (obviously) but not too majorly, my question is this… how did i get it in the first place?! im certainly not doing anything to myself to get a cut and i literally have no idea why i have it. at first i even thought i might have been date raped or something crazy just cause it flummoxed me so much, but now when it appears again i am just used to it!

does anyone have any experience of this or know what it is? im not going to do to a gynecologist cause i literally COULDNT. i know that’s stupid but im only 19 so i have a couple of years before i have to work up the courage for a smear and right now i dont have the guts.

any insight would be great! it’s not a huge issue, just a very confusing one!
the cut is on the inner labia

Do you not think that this is a little sexist…?

Question by [Pandalism]: Do you not think that this is a little sexist…?
Girls are expected to have to visit gynaecologists at least some point in their lives, but boys are not expected to have their bits checked? I mean a boy could just as well have an abnormality/problem as well as a girl, without even knowing about it. Yet girls are expected to spread their legs to random strangers, for virtually no reason, and I bet an exam for males wouldn’t even be that bad. =/
Erm, do you really think a man could check himself if had a prostate problem? Enlighten me how.
No, they’re strangers, since you don’t know them as a person, only as a medical practioner.
I think you are taking this the wrong way, or I don’t come across very clearly. I have not said anything AGAINST having a gyno examine anyone, I’m just saying that it is SOCIALLY EXPECTED to have those exams, but it is not for men. Seriously, do you know many males who would volunteer to have an exam for no apparent reason, other than if they were seriously concerned, or were in really bad pain in that area? I don’t think so. But do you know women who go through with an exam just for a checkup, without having any problems? More likely.
I don’t plan to have any children, I don’t like them. But thanks for your concern.

Well I just hope they have fuckin brains for themselves to decide what they want to do. You’re making this look like I’m a bad influence. You don’t go and jump off a bridge because someone tells you to. Neither you don’t make a personal opinion about something because someone said this or that. I would find it quite amusing if seomone would not want to visit the gyno because of this question. It would just prove how stupid some people are.
Look, I think you still don’t get my point, I’m no way saying that someone shouldn’t have an exam just because I think it’s a little sexist, from a social point of view. I just expressed my opinion. Maybe that’s a problem. (?)

Sorry.. but I think this is a really stupid question. It is very easy for a boy to check his balls himself. In the same way it is very easy for a girl to check her breasts herself. So that in itself proves it isn’t sexist otherwise women would have to have breast checks too.
As for gynaecology, a girl cannot do the same thorough job as a gyno. You linking this to sexism is plain stupid and irresponsible considering young girls look on this site and stupid questions like this might dissuade them from seeing a gyno which could save their life.

*EDIT Well I am a man and I do okay maintaining my health and checking things. Maybe your right in saying men need to have checks but you linking it to sexism is completely over the top and nothing to do with it whatsoever.
You’re opinion of gynocology is very immature indeed. What did you say again.. oh yeah ‘spread your legs to random strangers for virtually no reason’. When you have lost someone to cancer then perhaps you will understand. You just seem like an imature little school girl who is too prudish to look after her own health. These are professional people who are wanting to prevent cancer. You need to grow up a bit love. I hope to god you don’t have a daughter one day.

****EDIT To quote you: “volunteer to have an exam for no apparent reason”. This is where you are COMPLETELY wrong. There IS a reason to have a gyno check. These checks are to catch cancer in it’s early stages. Without these tests so many women would die as the result of not catching the disease quick enough. It is astounding that you feel like a gyno test is for ‘no apparent reason’. Totally immature and a bad example for young females on this site.
Yes, women find a gyno test awful. But that’s why some level of maturity has to be shown. The people who examine are you are proffesionals. They are not seedy little grubby men who want to look at you. It is up to you to pick someone you feel comfortable with. If you don’t want to have a test then that’s down to your own lack of maturity. I just think it is disgusting that you are saying they are ‘for no reason’ when young women view this site.

*sigh* edit – Yeah.. really proves how stupid some people are *cough cough*. Look, check out this website.. perhaps it might make you mature a bit. There is a really good quote on it (far better than anything I could say) and certainly better than the uneducated tripe you have said too.
“The greatest single reason for the occurrence of cervical cancer is not having Pap smears according to recommended guidelines”.
No harm in researching. Check it out.

Yes.. and this is my opinion too which I am also allowed to express. You should read what you have typed. Especially the things I have quoted from you. But hey, your life, your health, your risks. I just wanted to provide a voice of reason for the young women who might take notice of you.

Is this my irregular period, advice please?

Question by ♥ =^.^= ♥ нєℓєη ♥ =^.^= ♥: Is this my irregular period, advice please?
Hello I`m 18 years old and have a problem with my period. Basically this is not my regular period and am experiencing heavy bleeding now for over 2 weeks. I have visited my local GP for a number of times now and finally she has prescribed me some contraceptive pills to what she says stop the bleeding. Since I need to order these pills, I do not know the full medical name of the pill but I know it begins with D. Anyway she says that if these pills are not effective for over 5 days then I should re-consult her and she will refer me to a gynecologist. Now she says that the gynecologist would only give me pills, but the problem is I`m not confident with pills as the others she has prescribed me did not work very effectively whatsoever.

What do you think I should do, should I have surgical treatment, or keep going on the pill?

Best answer:

Answer by zetty p
use the pills first if it doesnt work then maybe u must have a surgical treatment. Just observe the result of the pills first.

Is a Bone Graft the same as an Alveoplasty? Also, where can I find coverage or help in paying for this?

Question by Sammi M: Is a Bone Graft the same as an Alveoplasty? Also, where can I find coverage or help in paying for this?
So, about a month ago, I took my mother to the dentist to have a few teeth pulled because they were giving her issues. While we were in the room, she told the dentist she was wanting to eventually have all her teeth pulled for dentures. Well, the dentist offered to pull them all for her that day. Before she said yes, she asked what would need to be done for the dentures. The dentist explained how the gums would need to heal completely before the fitting of the dentures. That’s all that was said. Well, AFTER all her teeth are pulled and everything is said and done, the assistant AND dentist come back in to explain to me about how she would need to have her bone filed down in her mouth before the fitting. We told them she had medicaid and that medicaid would NOT pay for that. They told me to try out friends of man, which is an organization that helps with some services here in Colorado. They submit the application to friends of man who denied it saying they don’t cover oral surgery like that. So now, since medicaid doesn’t pay for it, and it’s going to be $ 1,100 to get it done, we’re stuck in a rock and a hard place. I am pissed that they neglected to tell her this bullshit BEFORE they pulled all her teeth. Now, she’s stuck with no dentures, probably until I get my income tax in late January. She can only eat soft foods and she’s lost 20 LBS in less than a month and is still losing. I’m upset at the dentist because we specifically asked him if anything else would be needed before the dentures and he said no. There’s nothing she can do about her teeth NOW.

Anyways, does anyone know of anything that can help us here? I figured I could get her insurance, another one besides Medicaid, but ALL the insurances have a 12 month waiting period on oral surgeries and I don’t know of any good dental discount plans. There’s hardly any other organizations down here that help out with anything….

Answer by PenPress
Alveolopasty means bone reshaping…mostly involves removing and / or reshaping the irregularities…

…bone graft, on the other hand, means adding bone to a defect area…

..most insurances do not cover the procedure or at best will cover it only partially.

Is this good for my weight, i think its quite important for my health and my ‘life’?

Question by Super Girl: Is this good for my weight, i think its quite important for my health and my ‘life’?
when i get married, im going to have to keep a member ship with a gym, have an exercise machine at home, use nintendo wii fitness, etc, dvds, etc….
im going to have to see a dietitian and nutritionist ‘before’ i ever have a baby, i have to know how to work out and cut out of junk.. it will teach me to really be educated and knowledgeable on diet and for my own physical health more….
i need to join fitness boot camp after a baby, i want two in the future….. and then i can also have cosmetic surgery.

Because i know if i don’t i will definitely suffer with diabetes that is for sure, and i will blow up in to some thing really huge!

at least this will give me the confidence to be more fit as i get older, and learn more…

i know i would grow in to balloon! because people like me grow sides ways easier…
right now , i even have to do strength training at gym, i feel like a 50 year old!..
and i need to take up tennis for fun at gym on saturdays.

Really ,I don’t think you need all the things you listed here. But I will give you a tip to loosing fat after baby if your so worried about it. IT is called Breast Feeding. I have had 4 children and come from a family that gets big after baby. They did not breast feed. I did for at least 6months. I lost my baby blow up plus a bit more than what I had before pregnancy. Once your out on your own fixing your won food, you will feel better. For now learn about food diet and exercises. Also Love yourself for who you are not just what you look like. The positivity will help You A lot. Good luck!

I think doing all of those things would be going overboard. You should take up a sport you like, and maybe jog and/or lift weights…. but if this is a full-time obsession, then it’s simply unhealthy (mentally, mostly).
