Hi
I had a lap band 18 months ago. I was 116.5kgs and lost 20 kilos in the first six months. I was taking maxalon for a while after surgery due to prior gag reflex before surgery (have had it for years and other family members do too…when brushing teeth or thinking of something gross..I just gagged..then third gag would throw up). This had nothing to do with the lap band, and soon after surgery didnt need to take the maxalon and have never gagged since. I eat a lot of fish and chicken. If I talk too much during eating (especially if at a restaurant with friends) I forget to chew and eat slowly and then end up with a bit stuck. I rarely vomit, although when food doesnt go down do get a bit of saliva type build up that comes back. I dont miss bread or steak. I havent had any major weight loss for sometime now and just maintaining the same weight but need to get back into a bit of exercise/routine to lose some more. Hope this helps…..I dont have any regrets about having it done at all. Good luck

Free nose surgery on NHS?

Question by Charlotte Joy: Free nose surgery on NHS?
I am an English fourteen-year-old female, and I know that many readers of this question will think that I am an immature girl who simply wants to look perfect. That is not the case.

I have a nose that is off-centre from the front. Not wildly, but it definitely is ‘pushed’ to the left. As a result, I cannot breathe successfully through my right nostril.
However, I also suffer from really bad self-esteem due to the shape of my nose being large. I have been bullied, teased and left to feel isolated because of my nose, and it really upsets me.

Every time anybody looks at me, I cover my nose by scratching my face or wrapping a scarf around my face. It is getting ridiculous, and I am really suffering. I do not want therapy or help regarding my mental health.

I know it is a lot to ask, but do you think that they could do any cosmetic work whilst performing a septoplasty? It’s breaking my confidence and I don’t know what else I would do, I cannot afford to go private.

I am seeing by GP next week about my breathing problems.

Thank you!
Charlotte.

A friend said that if you go and speak to them then say stuff like it’s upsetting you etc. they might do something a lot of the time they do and she said she knows someone who got a job done there for free because she was under 16 and had problems about it

Lasik surgery on the NHS?

Question by catty: Lasik surgery on the NHS?
anyone know anything? or is it purely cosmetic?
yes, im on about eye surgery, and it would be for an eye that doesn’t stay in line, feels like its pulling outwards, if you get my meaning

If we are talking about eye lenses, my sister had to pay for hers. I had a nasty bleeding thing which needed cauterising, and I did not have to pay for that. I believe it was because it was bleeding that it was on the NHS. I have asked since about getting the bump removed, but they said it is is not a health problem so just leave it . It just so happens that it is on my back and can not be seen so is not even a cosmetic problem and over a few years has even gone down.

Without knowing what it is you want laser treatment on, it is hard to venture an opinion. However, I would stick my neck out a bit and say that if it is a health issue, you can probably get it fixed, but if it is a matter of personal preference or taste, probably unlikely.

My 13year old sister just been told she may not be able to have children. vaginal surgery?

Question by Lydia B: My 13year old sister just been told she may not be able to have children. vaginal surgery?
it started when my sister started her periods when she was 12. i’d always been able to use tampons easily, and so had my mum. she tried every day for hours every period but kept saying that she was in a lot of pain.

so my mum took her to the doctor. shes just been told that her vagina has probably not formed properly. shes being referred to a gynaecologist, because the GP couldnt tell enough. anyway, she might not be able to have children or sex.

im really really worried and upset for her. my question is, what can they do? will they be able to form a vaginal opening? or make it bigger or something? if they do, will she be able to carry a child?

i know we dont know enough yet and we need to wait for the gyno, but im just so worried.

serious answers only. im 16 by the way.

thanks xxx
thank you so much for all your support – it means a lot x

There are a lot of things that the doctors can do to help your sister so she can live a normal life. Right now its important that they identify what exactly the situation is so they can decide on the best course of action.

You are good sister for being concerned.
I believe that she’s going to be just fine and have a very happy life.
