Slipped disc, will it heal? my response?

Question by Sandy: Slipped disc, will it heal? my response?
Around 7 weeks ago I was picking something off the floor got up fast and was rushed to doctor who said I had slipped disc in L2,L3 region. I have also just had a baby 3 months ago and guess the disc slipped maybe due to weakness. I don’t have to much pain just every now and again, but when bending can feel the pain in the left area where disc has slipped so don’t think it has healed yet…

Just want to know does it ever heal? how long does it take? people say 6 weeks but I am now coming onto 8 weeks, hospital said it was minor disc slip, but then surely would have healed quicker!

Very distressed with this as feel I cant do much or hold my baby long as it starts to ache at time..

Any advise?

Hi, was not sure how to add more to my question so had to do it this way.

I am 25 years old, saw a physiotherapist a month ago who said where she was able to feel the tenderness and sharpness and the joints were torn on the lower back L2,L3 region, she will give me an exercise regime at my next visit also, She done no MRI Scan but but done a scan on my back to show muscle spasms and inflammation, Ran a scanner from my neck down to my tailbone. She said it was a tear and the tear will not repair, but I can exercise to strenghten the muscle! Also was told my posture is bad and I have flat feet so wear orthapedic soles in my shoes now.

Douglas, will be trying the exercises you have mentioned also!

Disc will not heal, you have to be careful lifting, exercise will help in the form of physical therapy.

A physiotherapist is not a Doctor and therefore cannot diagnose or treat you without a Doctors prescription with instructions on what therapy/exercise is to be followed.Chiropractors can cause more damage.

The best Doctor to see for this is a Physiatrist, a physiotherapist works under their direction.
Be very careful about what advice you follow, you may wind up causing more damage and the pain will get worse not better sometimes leaving you with no other option other than surgery, which you will want to avoid as long as possible.

I hope you feel better.

Ideally, I’m looking for a response from a Physiotherapist.?

Question by “Nice Beaver”: Ideally, I’m looking for a response from a Physiotherapist.?
I have what appears to be developing Osteoarthritis in my right knee joint: gradual onset over the past 12 months and some crepitus can be felt. I know about flushing of, and steroid injections into the capsule but I don’t regard it as being at that stage yet because it only troubles me at certain times, i.e. after long walks. Are there any recommendations for managing it at this stage? I tried one of those sports compression sleeves thinking the heat insulation would help but it appears to aggrevate it. I’m also working on losing a little weight as I know that can be beneficial in slowing further deterioration.

I’m definately no physio but have you tried taking Glucosamine Sulphate from health shops? That’s supposed to be brilliant for joint pain/arthritis/osteoporosis etc. It doesn’t do you any harm and doesn’t cost too much. You have to take it daily for at least a few weeks to notice the difference but it can’t hurt to try if you don’t want to try anything more severe yet? Hope that helps.
