Should i have the work done and how much would it cost?

Question by nurburg: Should i have the work done and how much would it cost?
I am 24. I have had 8 fillings in my life, i went to the dentist last week and i need another 7 fillings and i am going to lose one of my front teeth and need root canal on it. The fillings that i did have previous, some are loose and have holes in again. I am in pain all the time and haven’t been able to chew on one side for years. I have very good oral hygene the dentist said but i used to drink alot of fruit juice which im told has contributed to the problem. My teeth have been like this all my life. I also have unusually large nerves in my teeth too which is why they often hurt. They are making me so unhappy. I feel it is useless to try and keep repairing them all the time and it doesn’t help that i have a very big phobia of the dentist.

I am wondering if there is something available which will do the following: I want all my teeth taken out including the nerves in my gums. I want some sort of permanent false teeth put in. a bit like dentures but they are screwed in somehow and never can be removed. I have thought seriously about this. How much would it cost to have this done.? the money is irrelevant really i will pay whatever it takes. is this available?
Thanks

There is nothing like your own teeth. I would have the cavities filled, the root canal done and do whatever you can to maintain your own teeth. You are only 24 and have many years to go if you get dentures now. Dentures are usually done as a last resort. And any good dentist will tell you that.
I also had a severe phobia of the dentist, I hadn’t gone in 20 years! I have found a painless dentist who knows he’s dealing with a coward, and who has a wonderful staff. Now, it’s not my favorite place to be, but I truly don’t mind going any more. After the first heavy duty cleaning – they had to do it in four parts – I now go every 4 months – I don’t wait for the 6 months as recommended. I figure every 4 months, means less cleaning each time I’m in the chair.
Try to find a dentist you’re happy with, there is no reason for you to be in any pain.

I actually go to a private dentist Johnka

Depends on the dentist. Would range from £120 to £250. I am assuming a NHS dentist. If you go completely privately it would be much more.

How much does a wisdom teeth extraction cost?

Question by Mary: How much does a wisdom teeth extraction cost?
I was wondering how much a wisdom teeth extraction would cost if I were to be put under general anaesthetic? And also how much would it cost if I was under local anaesthetic, laughing gas? Thanks! I think my wisdom tooth is coming in because on my left back molar, my gum is swollen but I also have periodontal disease but I got a deep cleaning already so I was wondering what was going on with my gums. If you have any info please leave it in the answer. And does getting your wisdom teeth out hurt?? I’m so scared because I might have to do local. Thanks for the answers!

I paid out of pocket about 3 years ago for one, and I think (I think) it was around $ 250 (for one wisdom tooth).

I might add that it was pretty non-invasive. It had grown fully like a regular tooth, not underneath one, or to the side, or anything complicated like that.

I’m sure a dental receptionist can give you a ballpark figure.

Should I be bleeding this much!?

Question by Hanz-89: Should I be bleeding this much!?
Im 19 I was diagnosed with pcos about 2-3 yeas ago now and have tried all different types of tablets but none of them worked so my gynaecologist has now decided they will only put me on tablets once I want to become pregnant. So over the last few months I have been loads I will bleed for about 2 weeks and then stop for a week or so and then will start bleeding just as much again. I have had a scan on my stomach but the dr has said they cant see anything obvious on the scan. Im just fed up with the bleeding its getting me down and it is worrying me. Any advice will be gratefully appreciated xx

Answer by Deborah L
If you are not getting any joy with your current GP and Gynaecologist then perhaps go to a different one. You could always call an ambulance on a particularly bad day and be admitted to hospital – they HAVE to do as many tests as possible to find out what the problem is. It could be a thing called endometriosis. Google it to find out more.

I want my teeth to be healthier, but I’m scared I might have already caused too much damage?

Question by Lizzie: I want my teeth to be healthier, but I’m scared I might have already caused too much damage?
Please don’t mock.
I’m 14, and I have pretty bad teeth.
I’ve never brushed them twice a day for a period longer 5 days, (Although recently, I have changed, as I can’t put up with it anymore)
I go to the doctors every 6months, and always have to have a filling done or something.
My teeth were in such bad shape, I was sent away by the orthodentist, who refused to let me have braces because my teeth were bad.
My teeth are quite yellow, and having blonde hair, wow, that don’t help.

But like I said, I am changing, and i’m starting to get into a routine.

However, I’m scared that maybe the damage has already been done, and I won’t be able to fix the damage I have done.
Although I haven’t been told, I’m pretty sure I have gum disease. :/

Am I right? Is the damage beyond repair?
And is there any way, (Apart from bleaching) to regain the whiteness in my teeth.

Help is appreciated. :)
Also, my othodentist said, If I ever did change I weould have to spend about £3000 getting braces.
So will my teeth naturally straighten out? It’s only 4 of my teeth.

And there was me thinking my sister was bad at dental hygiene!

I don’t think there is any other way of regaining whiter teeth other than bleaching/laser – but beware these techniques strip a layer of enamel off, making your teeth more sensitive + less strong. Gum disease causes deep holes in your gums under your teeth, which need to be filled, hence ‘fillers’.

I would think that your dentist is refusing to do anything to your teeth, because you have a pretty bad track record. Even cleaning your teeth twice a day from now on won’t help, because all that plaque won’t budge with any toothbrush (unless it had metal bristles). You need it thoroughly cleaned by your dentist – try and persuade them that you’ll change.

Or, you’ll have to prepare for the worse…have no teeth.
