You need your teeth fixed.
The Dentist needs £1500, and you don’t have the money.
Ask him about a payment plan, you may be able to pay him back at about £100 a month.

Has my dentist done a bad job? i lost my crown and went to see a locum who said the crown fell as root decayed?

Question by Helen Murray: Has my dentist done a bad job? i lost my crown and went to see a locum who said the crown fell as root decayed?
I had full crown fitted to a bottom middle tooth after tooth removed and went through root canal in 2007. Now they say my root is too decayed to hold crown and I will have to pay for a bridge or denture. Help! I can’t help feelin the job wasn’t done correctly the first time
I have been regularly to the dentist sinve 2007 in part to get the said crown re fitted as it kept falling out. The dentist who fitted it said this is down to the position of the crown, but now the locum says decay I am not so sure. I always brush etc.

No way to tell. Have you been back since 2007? Doesn’t say that you have. We have no idea what your hygiene is like. Several things factor into this. I would go back to the original dentist and see what they say.

dentist used maximum dose felt the tooth being pulled traumatized?

Question by Christine M: dentist used maximum dose felt the tooth being pulled traumatized?
Been going to my dentist now for 3 wks gettting treatment and half denture fittings ,last thurs got bad toothache so went to dentist as emergency patient and waited 3 hrs to get in dont mind that pain was so bad would have waited forever. When i got in she just touched my tooth and said (it was sensitive)I was crying with pain ,she said she could not see anything wrong with the tooth and did i want root canal treatment or removal (had x ray on this tooth week before she said was fine)Of course i said removal wanted this pain to stop ,she injected my gum with i dont know what i went outside for 5 mins went back in ,she tried to pull my tooth i felt it so stopped her , another injection wait 5 mins and same again and this continued until my tooth was half out .I was almost passing out with the pain finally she said im up to maximum dose you can either come back tomorrow or bear the pain whilst she pulls it ,honestly im not shy of pain but i have never in my life felt pain like this eventually tooth out. Then i gets home and face starts swelling eye went black and back come the pain ,still had no sleep since Friday 24 7 pain ,im 53 had lots of teeth out in the past puzzled as to why this happened dentist just said it was sensitive ,one side of my face looks like a hamster and people think some one give me black eye .does any one know why this happened?
this was not a wisdom tooth it was one of my front teeth ,am asthmatic and down one side of my neck is effected wheezy
im not bothered about bruising will go it was the fact i felt the pain of the tooth being extracted ,in the past all the gum n root is dead ,she might as well of removed tooth with no injections

Best answer:

Answer by D R W D.M.D.
It’s a normal side effect of extractions. Sometimes you get bruising and it takes a while to go away.
Just because it wasn’t a wisdom tooth doesn’t mean that you can’t bruise afterward.

My dentist has refused my preferred treatment, how can i challenge him?

Question by Dee: My dentist has refused my preferred treatment, how can i challenge him?
At 23 I have extremely crooked teeth. I was bullied in school, people stare and it ruins my self confidence. This is not a sob story, I understand human nature.

I am a student and should be attending university this October. I explained to my new NHS dentist that I wanted my top front six teeth removed and replaced with a partial denture (£200-300) until such a time that I could afford implants. My dentist refused but explained that he might be able to do two separate bridges at the cost of 2 – 3k. He refused my partial denture because of my age. I explained that I couldn’t afford 2 – 3k. He referred me to an orthodontic specialist. His rate is £130.00 for 30 mins, not to mention the cost of the treatment.

My question to you guys is this, if at 23 a man can have his penis removed during gender altering surgery then why cant I have request to have my teeth removed taken seriously? How do I challenge my dentist and who is my first point of contact?

Teeth advice, do you think its reasonable to ask my dentist this…?

Question by Clare: Teeth advice, do you think its reasonable to ask my dentist this…?
My teeth are in really bad condition. The top ones in particular give me a lot of trouble. I wear a partial denture as I had to have a front tooth out.
The 2 smaller teeth either side of the very front ones are dead and have swelling at the root or something, they need root canals which i am 100% sure im not having done.
My left canine tooth has snapped in half.
And the molars at the back have big fillings in them which cause a lot of sensitivity and pain.

Im scared of the dentist, I get very panicy when I have to go there.

As my teeth need a lot of work done and give me a lot of pain Id like to ask my dentist if he can pull my top teeth out and give me a denture. As i already wear a partial I don’t think it would take much getting used to. Does this sound reasonable or will he think im crazy

Answer by Chrissie R
It’s not an unreasonable request to make, as long as you are happy with it.

If your teeth are in quite a bad way and you think this is the solution then it should be fine. it could save you a lot of pain (and money) if you have them removed.

What treatment can i get with an NHS dentist?

Question by collective49: What treatment can i get with an NHS dentist?
Hi all,

I recently left university and im very poor and looking for work.

The bane of my life has been my teeth, my mum wasnt very good at this stuff because my dentist retired when i was 10 and i never got another one and by the time i was 16, dentists freaked me out.

I am now 27 and i have had 2 extractions in the last 17 years at NHS hospitals, i used to go there if the pain was horrific to get the offending tooth ripped out.

I have 2 rotten teeth to the right of my right canine tooth. One at the top left at the back, and 3 at the back of my bottom jaw. These will need to be removed as they are pretty much at the gumline.

For years, since i was 15, i have been really self concious about my teeth. I hate my fake smile or not being able to relax and its made me very anti-social…. old habits die hard.

Today i woke up and called a new dentist and registered and have a check up on Monday….. Ugh

The thing is, im not particularly bothered about the pain at all, whip them out i say but what does bother me is the looming lecture. I really dont need a dentist to tell me how bad my teeth are and make a huge issue of it.. The damage has been done eh?

So that is what i am scared off, the reaction.

So lets say i take the hit on Monday and if possible make an appointment to get these bad boys ripped out, then im going to have multiple holes.

So then what happens? Does that i mean all that i have access to is a denture?

My front teeth are not rotton but they are unhealthy to an extent, solid however and given the kind of…. internmittent… teeth issue, is it likely i can get bridges fitted?

You see, im very good at keeping this issue away. People simply think i am a serious person who smiles (grins) so what im bothered about is going from not being able to smile coz of rotton (aka missing) teeth to having a terrible looking denture and if that is the case, then there really is no point in taking the hit as it wont change my incredible lack of confidence.

I think in an ideal world, id like to get some veneers on the front 6 top teeth, a bridge on the top and a possibly a denture on the bottom. Can i specifically request this or is it a case of i must just take what i am given?

Thanks everyone.

Give yourself time to get used to them before trying crusty bread! Practise on bananas – at home until confident.
Use a sterident type cleaning tablet of a night, try not to sleep in them. Contact Sterident or one of the peggy sticking cream people and get some samples of sticky strips or cream (if you need to use it, some don’t with full dentures). Also some good information on dental health website for dentures wearing etc.

On the bright side – you can make your own crinkly chips!!! (give it some thought!), you’ll never have tootache again, your teeth will always look great!

paying for a dentist in the UK, are there payment plans?

Question by Michelle: paying for a dentist in the UK, are there payment plans?
I have lost a crown on one of my front teeth, the other 2 crowns are loose, and after ringing every dentist in my area- Lancaster- and still not finding a dentist. i had to resort to super glue to stick the loose crowns back in. i know stupid, but this is what the UK dentist system has come to. the thing is i have contacted a dentist who will do a free consultation, but i looked on their website and it will be £450 for a crown! i was wondering if it is possible that you can pay for this monthly instalments? dental insurance does not cover crowns, bridges or dentures. so i will have to pay. which i don’t mind but £450 in one lump sum is a lot to pay. there are no NHS dentists round here taking on new patients, so i will have to go private. by the way, why is there such a shortage of dentists these days? many thanks for any answers.
brilock- i have rang all the dentists and cannot get an NHS dentist anywhere. i work and pay my NI and tax, i don’t know why there are no NHS dentists.
