Gastric band for weight loss does it work and how does it work?

Question by Gossip81: Gastric band for weight loss does it work and how does it work?

Positive feedback please

Answer by bumbleboi
It does work, it is like an elastic band which is placed around the stomach to restrict it’s capacity and function, hence you cannot eat as much as you once did. It is major surgery and highly risky and only available to those who are morbidly obese, which is different to clinically obese.
To be obese or clinically obese you have to be in excess of your ideal weight and body mass index (BMI). To be morbidly obese you have to be twice or more than twice your ideal weight and BMI, as the words imply, morbidly obese people are in danger of early or imminent death.

Hi
I had a lap band 18 months ago. I was 116.5kgs and lost 20 kilos in the first six months. I was taking maxalon for a while after surgery due to prior gag reflex before surgery (have had it for years and other family members do too…when brushing teeth or thinking of something gross..I just gagged..then third gag would throw up). This had nothing to do with the lap band, and soon after surgery didnt need to take the maxalon and have never gagged since. I eat a lot of fish and chicken. If I talk too much during eating (especially if at a restaurant with friends) I forget to chew and eat slowly and then end up with a bit stuck. I rarely vomit, although when food doesnt go down do get a bit of saliva type build up that comes back. I dont miss bread or steak. I havent had any major weight loss for sometime now and just maintaining the same weight but need to get back into a bit of exercise/routine to lose some more. Hope this helps…..I dont have any regrets about having it done at all. Good luck

Too young for a gastic band?

Question by glam123: Too young for a gastic band?
I am 22 5ft 8 and tipping the scales at 17st argh!!! i am fed up of trying every diet under the sun and them dont work or i end up piling the weight back on. I am at the end of my tether i am sick of my weight taking over my life. I am thinking of gettng a gastric band done through a clinic i know it will cost alot but i hear they do a repayment plan over an agreed time. I doubt my GP will allow one on the NHS especially as i have never raised concern over my weight to my GP. Has anyone had fitted? what were the results? Is it worth it?

Any views appreciated. thanks

Dude you are only 15!! Don’t worry about it it will all go away! ok I was 16 and weighing more than I do now and now I am 20 and weighing less than I did in high school. It is all about puberty and growing up! if you are really self concious about it, take up a gym class or watch what you eat and control your wight yourself. It will be ok!!!!
