How do I go about getting 1 dental implant done on the NHS?

Question by Clare: How do I go about getting 1 dental implant done on the NHS?
I was told by my private dentist that I may be able to get 1 dental implant done on the NHS. Im 20 years old and have lost a front tooth. I wear a partial denture which keeps breaking, when i say keeps breaking I mean all the time.

I don’t wear it at home or when I eat, only when I go out. It was repaired last tuesday, I picked it up from the dentist, wore it wednesday and 2 hours at college, wore it for about 5 hours thursday, didn’t touch it at all friday, wore it 2 hour saturday, went to take it out to eat something and it snapped again.

Its really starting to affect my life, I wont go to college without it, I wont meet up with friends, ive cancelled plans this week purely because I have no tooth. I know it seems stupid but im very very self conscious. I was always bullied at school and now have no confidence at all (yeah there’s the sob story lol)

Does this seem a reasonable case just to get 1 implant done? If I do it through my dentist it will cost £2000, just for the one!

I don’t know where to start about contacting the NHS.

i wonder if there would be any information on the NHS Direct website…there certainly is a phone number where you could possibly ring for advice. http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/

i got my dental implant done in India…it cost me £470 & is perfect…like you say – UK dentists charge £2000 – i doubt you can get one on the NHS – but it is sure worth a try. good luck.

Hi. Seems like you’ve made your mind up, but I really don’t know why women have to have this done. I am 53 and have g/friends with big, small, loose and firm boobs. Made no difference to me. The size of the boobs was never a deal breaker. Lying, unfaithful, argumentative, lazy. impatient, and just plain crazy. Those were some of the things that caused break up. Going for classes on improving the weaket part of our personality is probably the best thing women, and men, should do.
Good luck anyway

Hi
I had a lap band 18 months ago. I was 116.5kgs and lost 20 kilos in the first six months. I was taking maxalon for a while after surgery due to prior gag reflex before surgery (have had it for years and other family members do too…when brushing teeth or thinking of something gross..I just gagged..then third gag would throw up). This had nothing to do with the lap band, and soon after surgery didnt need to take the maxalon and have never gagged since. I eat a lot of fish and chicken. If I talk too much during eating (especially if at a restaurant with friends) I forget to chew and eat slowly and then end up with a bit stuck. I rarely vomit, although when food doesnt go down do get a bit of saliva type build up that comes back. I dont miss bread or steak. I havent had any major weight loss for sometime now and just maintaining the same weight but need to get back into a bit of exercise/routine to lose some more. Hope this helps…..I dont have any regrets about having it done at all. Good luck

There is a National Health Service in Ireland the same as in the UK.

Contraceptives in Ireland

Today you will find contraceptives on sale all over Ireland. Oral contraceptives are available by prescription only through pharmacies (note that some doctors will not give a prescription on principle, contact a family planning clinic or women’s health center if stuck). Condoms are widely available in pharmacies, supermarkets and through vending machines. For all other non-prescription contraceptives talk to a pharmacist.

One word of warning though – your preferred choice of contraception may not be (widely) available in Ireland. Or the prices might be high. So it might be a good idea to bring your own.

And another thought to bear in mind is the fact that sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are definitely on the rise in Ireland. Any casual sexual encounter comes with a high risk of infection. The use of condoms not only as a method of contraception but to prevent the spread of STDs is highly advisable.

The price will probably be similar to the UK, but in the Republic it will be in euros.

A question about male doctors examining women?

Question by Love Never Dies: A question about male doctors examining women?
Why is it that many women have stooped so low to allow a man to check them out in such an intimate way? This is something that has always sickened me, especially when my 16 year old girlfriend had to be examined by a male doctor. Think about it, a male gynecologist feeling your breats, sticking his fingers as deep as possible and feeling the back, and then taking a nice long look inside. Then he smiles and says, “Put your clothes back on and clean yourself up. Next”

Though he may not express it, he will definetly enjoy it. Men are especially attracted to the female body. Wearing a white cloak with rubber gloves won’t take the “man” out of him. I just think that it’s very disrespectful to a woman’s boyfriend or husband, seriously. Some men don’t care but many others do. It’s very normal and acceptable for a man to feel upset about his woman being checked out by another man. If women can’t respect that then they are the ones that have issues. This kind of stuff can really come back and haunt a man. It did me with my girlfriend.

I usually get some pitiful and absurd replies from women whenever I bring this up. Some women say that “They have seen it all before, their just doing their job” Oh, so I guess that makes it morally right. Forget how your boyfriend or husband feels. And if a husband or boyfriend thinks this is fine then something is very wrong in his mind. Men who look at naked women on the internet can do it every day and not get bored.

Some women give another weak argument by saying, “But a woman doctor could be a lesbo” Oh please, you know that is a phony-baloney excuse. You know that is pig slop. Even if on the rare occasion the doctor was a lesbo, a woman’s mind still isn’t wired the same way as a man’s mind. I get some very pitiful excuses but I think it’s sad how women have stooped so low to allow male doctor’s to do this. But then again, nearly anything is acceptable in our world today.

A question for women about male doctors?

Question by Rooper: A question for women about male doctors?
I just wanted peoples opinions on this. Please read to the end before you answer. I know it’s quite long but please read to the end, cheers. Many people agree with me on this topic, and many disagree. Basically I think it is morally wrong for a male doctor to examine a woman with pelvic exams etc. I will explain.

When my girlfriend had to be examined by a male it kind of made me feel sick, to think that another male was doing very intimate exams on her. Many other men agree with me on this. Morally I think it’s wrong. But we have become a society of acceptance. Anything goes really. The end justifies the means.

Men are men. Putting on a white cloak and rubber gloves does not make you immune from perversion. It’s nature for men to be especially attracted to the female body. A male doctor may act professional but you can’t read his mind. Some women don’t actually care if the doctor gets aroused but I think that is quite disturbing. But for those women who think most male doctors are immune from this kind of thing because they have qualifications, please read what this doctor called Mark wrote:

“My considered opinion, after hearing serveral of my male colleagues talking informally about their practices in gynecology, is that men should not be gynecologists. Period. I simply don’t feel that a man can have the proper frame of mind to care for women in such an intimate setting, and despite all the talk of, “this is what they’re trained for,” etc, I hear their “locker-room talk” and I just think that gynecologic practice should be restricted to women.”

This is coming from a doctor. You can accuse him of being a liar but just put your thinking cap on for a moment. It’s human nature for men to get very aroused by an attractive woman when doing these kind of exam’s. You have been taught that because he’s a doctor everything is alright. If you think that most gynecologists are not viewing you sexually, you are kidding yourself. Things get said behind closed doors that you women don’t know about. Of course they will act all nice and professional, but for them not to get aroused by this, they are fighting against nature. I don’t buy it.

Now I don’t want to preach to people and I know what I have said may seem strange to some people, but that is because this world is not of God. For the longest of time it was the mid wives that delivered the babies, not males. So what happened? It started when man decided to set himself up as a god besides God. He slightly violated the laws and commandments of God until he moved them almost utterly. Now in the 21st century God has been extracted from the Educational system, work, etc. Society is degenerate.

It is wrong for a man to look upon another man’s wife naked. Wrong, wrong, wrong! Any woman that doesn’t think so cannot be in the mind of God. You have been taught he’s a doctor therefore it’s ok. Anytime a woman is placed in a position that she feels uneasy with a man checking her private parts, that is her inner spirit conversing with her suggesting to her that this is not right. Yes I am a Christian, but even before I was a Christian I felt strongly towards this, and many other men feel the same. For another man, doctor or no doctor, to examine another man’s wife or girlfriend is morally wrong.

And please don’t use the excuse about lesbian female doctors. Maybe you will get 1 in a hundred or even 1 in a thousand. And even if the female doctor is a lesbian, a woman does not get sexually aroused as quick as what men do. Men are much more likely to be perverts than women due to their testosterone nature. So please, don’t use lesbian doctors as an excuse because it just won’t hold up.

Now I want to make it clear that I respect doctors and think they do a great job. But when it comes to intimate exam’s I think it is very morally wrong for a male to examine a woman. They are not immune from getting sexually aroused no matter how much they have been trained, and like some doctor’s have said, they have heard what some doctors talk about in their “locker-room talk” Male doctors are human, and we should go back to how it has been for the last few thousand years, women being examined by females, not the other way around.

Dude seriously let this go. You’ve already asked it a million times. there are bigger moral issues in the world than the fact that male doctors are examining female patients.

Horrified, about my brace situation!?

Question by LOU :) : Horrified, about my brace situation!?
I’m 15, i went to the hospital today as i’d been sent there by my doctor to discuss getting braces. My top teeth stick out so I was thinking he’d advise the fixed “train track” braces and I was pretty worried about that but now I’m wished he’d advised them!
On examining my teeth he told me that I’d need serious surgery on my jaw and that if I wanted “cosmetic” braces i’d have to have a glued retainer. What is this!? I’m so confused; he also said that I’d have to have it for life as whenever I remove the brace my teeth would just go back to how they were before. I’m pretty down about this now, can this be true? Is there no other way!?

my daughter has a small piece of metal stuck permanently behind her top front teeth so that they don’t return to their original position, i think that’s what they would give you to, its just a thin strip like a sewing needle thickness.
good luck

Dental question about veneers. If the veneers fell off….?

Question by CHEEKY: Dental question about veneers. If the veneers fell off….?
What is left there? Are they just stuck to stumps or your whole old tooth? Also, does anyone else think that they just look like dentures a lot of the time?

Best answer:

Answer by tooth975
There are 2 ways to have veneers done. One way is to do no or very little grinding on the tooth and bond the veneer onto the tooth. In this case if the veneer breaks or falls off, the tooth will look intact.

The second way is to prep the tooth. That means enough enamel is ground away on the front of the tooth to make room for the veneer so that the tooth will not look too fat and be more natural looking. When a veneer falls off of this type of tooth, it will be dark and yellowish because this is the color of a tooth without enamel over it.

If not made properly, veneers can look like “chicklets” or fake denture teeth.

A question about NHS services?

Question by whateva: A question about NHS services?
I’ve heard on the radio that some people, in particular teenagers and children, get teased very badly about things like the ears or nose and thus get depressed. In certain places in Europe NHS provide free cosmetic surgeries for people that I’ve mentioned.

Sadly I’m one of those teenagers and I live in the west midlands. How can I get a free surgery and is it true that it is my right to have it whether or not my parents agree with my decision to have surgery?

Can you please note any websites that tell me more about it please.

Best answer:

Answer by Veronica Alicia
You need to talk over the problem with your doctor.
He or she can make a referral to the appropriate plastic surgeon, maybe in Birmingham., Stourbridge, Dudley, etc.
The teenage girl who lived next door to us had plastic surgery done by an NHS surgeon to correct a chin problem.
